CIPC slams SD Supes’ irresponsible vote

Will continue working with local partners to #DefendSanctuary

Today, in response to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors’s 3-1 vote to support the Trump administration’s lawsuit against California’s pro-immigrant laws, Cynthia Buiza, Executive Director of the California Immigrant Policy Center, issued the following statement:

Today’s vote, taken by a profoundly unrepresentative body, is completely out of touch with the values of San Diego county and Californians as a whole. Across the state, we know immigrants are our neighbors, family members, friends – and us. We believe in protecting due process for everyone, including immigrants, especially in the face of the federal government’s disturbing abuses of power.

The spectacle of a traveling “hate circus” of provocateurs helping to raise the profile of certain officials for nakedly political purposes is a distraction from the real issues which our communities face. We will continue to stand up for our values of compassion and equality in every corner of the state. We will continue to push for the strongest implementation of SB 54. When local law enforcement act as deportation agents, that further undercuts community confidence and tears families apart.
